Quality of life migration (LM) involves the mobility of middle and high-income people due to improvements in quality of life, differentiating it from classic labor migrations. It covers various situations such as digital nomads, retired migrants and expatriates, moving away from the stereotype of forced labor migration. Although the topic of labor migration has been widely studied, quality of life migration has gone unnoticed in public opinion and scientific research, despite its impact on specific spaces and on territorial, social and economic dynamics. Likewise, it has received little academic attention, in part due to conceptual complexity and lack of precise data.
In this context, the CICONIA project emerges (PID2020-117459RB-C21) , thanks to the financing of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, with the aim of analyzing in depth this migratory phenomenon at the national and international level, considering its various manifestations in different territorial and social contexts; aimed at carrying out a systematic evaluation and exhaustive research.
The CICONIA project develops actions to understand the impact of migration on quality of life in tourism and in large cities, with special attention to the gender perspective.
